The first time I saw Dolly Parton in concert was 11 years ago at Dollywood. It was, in fact, my first concert ever. So when Dolly announced she was coming back to Arkansas (a place she hasn’t been since 2008), I immediately knew I wanted to be there.

I arrived and settled into my seat in the lower bowl of the arena, with a decent view of the stage. After a few minutes of making sure I had everything I needed, I ran to the front row before the show started, to ask some of the people who met Dolly some questions.

Garth Brooks @ Schottenstein Center, Columbus, OH | April 16, 2016 – Review

Written by Brandon Florkey

So when Vickye asked if I could cover this show, there was no hesitation to say yes.

FEATURED: Carrie Rodriguez ‘Lola’

unnamed (2)

Written by G. Anderson

Anyone familiar with Carrie Rodriguez’s previous work knows how talented she is, with her phenomenal fiddling, her clever songwriting, and her distinctly sultry voice. Her February 19th release, Lola, adds another level: it’s bilingual. Rodriguez says she’d always wanted to record an album in Spanish, and one day when she was gazing at an old photo of her great aunt, a popular singer in the 40’s, she was inspired to adopt the alter-ego of “Lola Beltrán,” a Chicana Mid-Century romantic. The persona stayed with her throughout the recording process, and she admits that when she is “singing in Spanish, I almost feel like I have to be Lola to really get there.”
