Little Big Town, David Nail, Ashley Monroe @ Starlight Theatre, Kansas City, MO | August 29, 2015 – Review

From my previous experience of seeing Little Big Town live, I knew how incredible their show was, and just how much energy they put into making sure their fans leave having had an incredible experience. On this tour however, they have really surpassed themselves, providing openers of the very highest quality in Ashley Monroe and David Nail, both artists that I would travel some miles to see doing a headline show. Having said that, the line up didn’t stop there, since the show was actually kicked off with a set provided by Cam. I’m glad I was early for the show, because Cam is a fabulous live performer, with a small but quality reservoir of songs, including the moving ‘Burning House’.

Everyone Wants To Write With Ashley Monroe – The Buddy & Jim Show Recap

Ashley Monroe was once so distraught she found herself knocking on Vince Gill’s door and pouring her heart out earlier this year. Gill came to the door in his sweatpants, heard her out and then proceeded to call out to his wife. “Amy,” he said, “looks like we’ve got a wounded bird here.”

Monroe was laughing telling the story recalling how she and Gill had started writing years before he produced her album Like a Rose and this year’s record The Blade. Together they have written ten songs.

“Vince really understands my voice,” she said to Buddy Miller and Frankie Pine on a recent episode of The Buddy & Jim Show on Sirius XM Outlaw Country. Pine, who works with Miller on the music for the television show Nashville, was substituting for Jim Lauderdale who is recording in Memphis. “When I was a little older and signed with Warner Nashville, I knew exactly what I wanted my record to sound like. I just saw Vince’s name in my head.”

Ashley Monroe ‘The Blade’ – Single Review

Ashley-Monroe-630x419

I first became aware of Ashley Monroe when she, along with her friends Miranda Lambert and Angaleena Presley, formed the girl power trio The Pistol Annies. I loved the Annies immediately after watching them perform “Hell On Heels” for the first time. I fell in love with Ashley’s voice and soon looked back through her solo catalogue, landing on the haunting “Hank’s Cadillac”. Since then I’ve followed her career closely, through her now 3 solo albums and 2 Annie albums.

Ashley Monroe ‘The Blade’ – Album Review

AM_Cover_TheBlade-FNL-560x560-560x560

When Ashley Monroe’s second full-length album ‘Like A Rose’ debuted in 2013, it affirmed what a plethora of fans and industry folk already knew: that the songstress was a phenomenal singer, songwriter, and general badass. She has originally acquired this reputation when at 19 years old she recorded ‘Satisfied’, an album that even then showcased her sense of maturity and deep emotional connection with real country music. From there she laid low, writing and providing backing vocals for bigger stars in the industry, before launching alongside friends Miranda Lambert and Angaleena Presley as the Pistol Annies in 2011. All of these components came together to make her a major critics’ darling, no longer Nashville’s Best Kept Secret.
