Blake Shelton ‘Gonna’ – Single Review

blake shelton gonna

Well folks, Blake Shelton recently released a new single called “Gonna”. Now I should be upfront and say that I’m not a fan of Blake’s last few singles, and by last few, I mean the last two singles I really liked was “Honey Bee” and “Who Are You When I’m Not Looking”, although “Mine Would be You” and “Doing What She Likes” weren’t bad either. I have to admit, I find it extremely aggravating that Blake, who we all know has talent and the ability to release great songs, insists on releasing below average, substance-lacking songs. What’s up with that? I realize that he has a lot on his plate, trying to juggle coaching duties, acting as one of four coaches on the hit talent show The Voice, with a music career, but still, why make music if it’s just going to be bland and generic?

We have a rule at For The Country Record. We don’t gossip or discuss the stars’ personal lives unless it has a profound impact on the music they are making, and therefore requires joint analysis. In this case, however, not only does the divorce of Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton impact their own music, but the country music industry as a whole, to the point where immediately following the announcement (yesterday – July 20 – just after 1pm ET) Twitter was abuzz with discussion.

Billboard Chart Roundup – Week of July 11th, 2015

blake shelton sangria

It’s Kacey Musgraves’ week as her sophomore album debuts at #1 on Top Country Albums with 54,000 copies sold (launching her at #3 on the Billboard 200), knocking the likes of Sam Hunt and Zac Brown Band further down the chart. The boost has pushed her lead single ‘Biscuits’ to #33 on Hot Country Songs while upcoming single ‘Dime Store Cowgirl’ has come in at #44. Meanwhile, leading that chart is, as usual, Little Big Town’s ‘Girl Crush’, a feat they have now managed for a whopping 10 weeks, while the track also takes Country Digital Songs and Country Streaming Songs, moving up to #8 on Country Airplay. The King of Country Airplay this week is Blake Shelton’s ‘Sangria’, just pipping Carrie Underwood to the post (although ‘Little Toy Guns’ did go #1 on Mediabase), while a new release comes from The Cadillac Three and new debuts are from Kenny Chesney and Cam. Read on for more!
