Country to Country (C2C) Festival 2016 | Day Three, London – Review

eric church c2c

After days two and three had been bigger and better than anybody could have expected, it was hard to imagine how day three could top it. Andrew Combs was around to get things going, introducing the rootsier, edgier sound of the evening. He was by far the most Americana act on the bill, with many wondering how he reached the main stage, but nonetheless he gave a good performance with a selection of material showcasing his great lyrics, a real country sound and some old school rock ‘n’ roll. For me he didn’t have as much on stage charisma as some of the superstar acts, but that’s to be expected, and playing to a fairly empty arena (as it unfortunately was at that stage) has got to have an impact.

Has The Advent Of Streaming Made Mainstream Artists Lazy?

CHRIS_stapleton_1280

If you hadn’t heard, there’s an old new-kid on the block by the name of Adele and she’s back with a bang, selling a record 4,000,000 albums in two weeks. Yes, you read correctly, she sold that many. Even back in the day before downloads, and far before free streaming services like Spotify, that is an astronomical number of units to sell, and now I’m seeing semi-facetious tweets along the lines of ‘The hurricane winds experienced right now are an anomaly caused by the collective sighs of relief from record company executives’. The Travels of Chris Stapleton

CHRIS_stapleton_1280

When Chris Stapleton moved to Nashville, he’d sit up all night in the garage basement apartment he rented, playing fiddle tunes and carrying on into the night. On one of those nights, the question came up in conversation: “What would a dude in a country song do if he ran out of whiskey?”

Stapleton’s good friend said: “I think he’d get probably get stoned.” Sitting in the studios of Sirius XM Outlaw Country hosting his “Traveller Hour” radio special, Stapleton shared, “That’s how the song started and finished. And there you go.”

That was long before he became an “overnight” sensation winning three Country Music Association awards for Best Male Vocalist, Best New Artist and Album of The Year.

Stapleton was recounting the inspiration behind his debut album Traveller. On a “Traveller Hour” rebroadcast over Thanksgiving weekend, the show offered a one on one encounter with Stapleton recorded before stardom struck on a Wednesday night in October.
