Country to Country (C2C) Festival 2016 | Day Three, London – Review

eric church c2c

After days two and three had been bigger and better than anybody could have expected, it was hard to imagine how day three could top it. Andrew Combs was around to get things going, introducing the rootsier, edgier sound of the evening. He was by far the most Americana act on the bill, with many wondering how he reached the main stage, but nonetheless he gave a good performance with a selection of material showcasing his great lyrics, a real country sound and some old school rock ‘n’ roll. For me he didn’t have as much on stage charisma as some of the superstar acts, but that’s to be expected, and playing to a fairly empty arena (as it unfortunately was at that stage) has got to have an impact.

Eric Church @ Greunspan, Hamburg, Germany | March 3, 2016 – Review

Taking advantage of the all-expenses pass given by the Country to Country music festival in London, many of the artists present at the UK festival have taken the time to go out of their way to explore some more of mainland Europe. Being one of my favourite countries in the world, there was no chance I would turn down the opportunity to see Eric Church play a club-venue in Germany. Greunspan, situated in the heart of the notorious red-light district of Hamburg, was a great venue, barely holding one thousand, and it did feel like time was turned back given that in America it is unlikely that you’ll see Eric playing anything less than an amphitheater or arena!

Eric Church ‘Record Year’ – Single Review

Record-year-Cover

Eric Church, for a mainstream country artist, doesn’t follow rules. This was already apparent when he followed up his commercial breakthrough album ‘Chief’ with the polarizing ‘The Outsiders’, weaving harder rock sounds, commercial country, blues and even elements of psychedelia into a melting pot of interesting repertoire. He continued to surprise with single releases, and even with each song that didn’t reach top 10 status on radio, he carried on selling records and tickets and moved on to the next release, seemingly with little interest in whether they reached #1 or not.

Hank Williams Jr. ‘Are You Ready For The Country’ ft Eric Church – Single Review

hank jr

Hank Jr. is back folks. Three years after releasing Old School New Rules, Williams has dropped a brand new single and announced a new record, both the first song/record from Williams on his new label home, Nash Icon. The new record, It’s About Time, is set for release on January 15th, meanwhile Williams and Church debuted “Are You Ready For The Country” on the CMAs earlier in November. The single is pure Hank Jr. One thing I’ve always loved and admired about Hank Jr. is the fact that he’s never felt the need to change his music to follow the trends of the day. Williams has always stuck to what he knows, and ultimately, what his fans love.

maxresdefault

Carrie Underwood is back to reigning on Country albums this week, as ‘Storyteller’ jumps from #3 to #1. Last week’s chart-topper, Chris Stapleton’s buzzy ‘Traveller’, has dropped to #9 – while Tim McGraw’s ‘Damn Country Music’ (last week’s #2) is now at #7. In their places are The Shires with ‘Brave (Deluxe)’ at #2 (‘Brave’ is at #6) and Eric Church’s surprise release ‘Mr. Misunderstood’ at #3, which first hit iTunes UK earlier this week. Behind them is Chris Young’s brand new album ‘I’m Comin’ Over’ at #4, while Kacey Musgraves’ current UK tour has pushed ‘Pageant Material’ to #11. Striking Matches are also on tour over here right now, and thus ‘Nothing But The Silence’ gets a big boost to #21, while Steve ‘n’ Seagulls enter the top 25 for the first time with ‘Farm Machine’ at #17.

Eric Church ‘Mr. Misunderstood’ – Album Review

eric-church-mr-misunderstood-560x560

Having a panic attack about whether an album does or does not exist; that pretty much sums up CMA Week for me this year whilst trying to find some sort of source to obtain Eric’s new ‘surprise’ album in the UK. I ended up getting drunk and spending £17 on shipping it from the USA, which is a testament of how excited I was about new Eric Church music. After ‘The Outsiders’, which is one of my favourite albums ever, Eric had a lot to live up to, but unlike with some artists I didn’t really fear, because Eric Church is Chief and pretty much everything he does is awesome.
