Florida Georgia Line ‘Confession’ – Single Review

florida-georgia-line-red-target-mic-400px

Remember when Florida Georgia Line said they were taking a break from radio following their last single ‘Anything Goes’? Wasn’t that a nice few weeks when we believed that?

I don’t know whether they actually meant they would take a break following the fifth single from their second record, ‘Confession’, or whether they said that about the previous one and the label overruled them, but I do know that they’re not all that far away from finishing their third record. That means that through this complicated mess of who said what and what they meant by that, it won’t be long before a lead single from a new record will be ready to go to radio. So with a fifth single announced and likely with a slower run on the charts than their previous ones (labels put less promotion behind a final single), it may be done by Spring next year. I wouldn’t be surprised if the album is done by then and Big Machine want to send a brand new single to radio to get things moving. So no break, unfortunately.

CMA Festival Country’s Night To Rock: Recap + Loads of Opinion

cma fest 2015

CMA Festival’s Country’s Night To Rock aired this week (Aug. 4th) on ABC… and it was pretty forgettable. Country super group Little Big Town hosted the event and did a good job at it, it’s just too bad the event wasn’t as good as they were.

Florida Georgia Line ‘Anything Goes’ – Single Review

FloridaGeorigaLine2015b

Florida Georgia Line’s continued heights of success continue to mystify me. I mean, I do have to admit that it’s impressive how they have managed to sustain an entire career from one narrative, one melody, one arrangement, one beat, and one auto-tune setting. Many have tried to replicate this formula but none of them have come close to the sheer audacity, the sheer lunacy, the sheer musical porridge of this duo. And for that, they, or their marketing team (most likely the latter) should be celebrated in a business sense. They’ve made a pretty penny out of shit on a conveyor belt and taking the obnoxious anti-intelligence of Jason Aldean to the next level.

Country to Country (C2C) Festival Day 1 | March 7th, 2015 – Review

C2C_500x500_UK

With a controversial line-up made up of Brandy Clark, Lee Ann Womack, Florida Georgia Line and Luke Bryan, ticket sales seemed to suffer at this year’s C2C music festival, with empty seats being prevalent throughout the two days. What I thought was worse, however, was the embarrassingly empty stands for the amazing openers on both days. In fact, on the Saturday, the stands only seemed remotely full when Florida Georgia line and Luke Bryan came on stage. If the UK wants to be taken seriously by the CMA and by artists, then deliberately missing two of country music’s greatest voices and songstresses is not the way to go about it.

Hall of Fangirl – March 2015 (C2C Edition)

c2c 2015

Every year we use our monthly Hall of Fangirl feature to take a look at the acts playing C2C Festival in London (+ Dublin, Oslo and Stockholm), since it’s become the UK and Europe’s premier country music festival, despite only coming up on its third year. Let’s dig in and take a look at some of the acts on the bill.

Brandy Clark

Currently traditional country’s torchbearer within the mainstream field, Brandy Clark is coming off the back of two Grammy nominations (Best New Artist and Best Country Album for ’12 Stories’) and a Grammy performance with Dwight Yoakam (‘Hold My Hand’) that resulted in the highest percentage sales gain for any performing artist on the night. As well as playing the CMA Songwriters Series the previous night, she will be opening day one of the festival, no doubt bringing in a whole new wave of fans. Check out her Grammy performance below.
