At Farm Aid, The Seeds of Revolution

Let it be said here that this was the day when we may look back on when the revolution was declared. Or as Neil Young said on the morning of Saturday, September 17, “The Better Food Revolution.”

Young appeared at his 31st Farm Aid like he was Mayor of the Earth, the planet’s five letters all in uppercase emblazoned EARTH on his black t-shirt. Young was decrying big agriculture for selling food that’s been degraded, taking a shot at Barack Obama. “Even your president supports it.”

Dave Cobb ‘Southern Family’– Album Review

Probably the most anticipated, talked about record of 2016 is ACM producer of the year, Dave Cobb’s concept record, Southern Family. Featuring some of the biggest artists in Country AND Americana, including Miranda Lambert, Brandy Clark, Jason Isbell, Morgane Stapleton (with Chris Stapleton), and Holly Williams, the record was expected to be a heavy hitter. I admit, that it was on my personal list of most anticipated records for this year and one that I thought for sure would top my Best Albums of 2016 (even though it’s only March, I was THAT confident). Being able to listen to Miranda’s “Sweet By and By”, John Paul White’s “Simple Song”, Anderson East’s “Learning”, Morgane Stapleton’s “You Are My Sunshine”, and Zac Brown’s “Grandma’s Garden” ahead of the album’s release only heightened my anticipation. So when the record was finally released, I immediately delved into it.

Show to Benefit The Pen Fund; Advance Tickets Available Now

Jamey Johnson, Buddy Cannon and Scotty Emerick will kick off fundraising efforts for The Pen Fund with a hometown show on Wednesday, July 29 at 3rd and Lindsley (818 3rd Avenue South).  Dubbed Songwriters 4 Songwriters, the event will benefit songwriters with Pancreatic cancer.  TPF supports disease awareness and furthers cutting-edge breakthroughs in research and development for early detection and treatment.  Tickets are $20 online and $25 day of show; the doors open at 6 p.m. and the music starts at 7:30.  For those who cannot attend the show, donations can be made directly to The Pen Fund at www.thepenfund.org or by logging on to your PayPal Account.
