Country to Country (C2C) Festival 2016 | Day Three, London – Review

eric church c2c

After days two and three had been bigger and better than anybody could have expected, it was hard to imagine how day three could top it. Andrew Combs was around to get things going, introducing the rootsier, edgier sound of the evening. He was by far the most Americana act on the bill, with many wondering how he reached the main stage, but nonetheless he gave a good performance with a selection of material showcasing his great lyrics, a real country sound and some old school rock ‘n’ roll. For me he didn’t have as much on stage charisma as some of the superstar acts, but that’s to be expected, and playing to a fairly empty arena (as it unfortunately was at that stage) has got to have an impact.

ITunes UK Country Chart Roundup – Week of 20th November, 2015

7zXzRuXQ

Once again Chris Stapleton’s ‘Traveller’ leads the Country Albums chart, beating out Kacey Musgraves’ boost from her current tour that lands her at #2 (‘Pageant Material’) and #3 (‘Same Trailer Different Park’) respectively. There’s plenty of movement from new(ish) offerings on this week’s charts; Carrie Underwood’s ‘Storyteller’ is at #4, Chris Young’s ‘I’m Comin’ Over’ is at #8, Eric Church’s ‘Mr. Misunderstood’ is at #11, Tim McGraw’s ‘Damn Country Music’ is at #15 and Nathan Carter’s new ‘Live At The Marquee Cork’ is at #16. The Shires have dropped a little but still remain a sales force, placing ‘Brave’ at #7 and #9, while Miranda Lambert interestingly launches ‘Platinum’ to #10 and ‘Revolution’ jumps all the way to #12 from obscurity.

Kacey Musgraves @ Royal Albert Hall, London, UK | November 18, 2015 – Review

It had been a busy and stressful day for me when I headed down to the Royal Albert Hall in Kensington, London to go watch Kacey Musgraves for the first time in nearly 18 months. I was excited to get lost in one of my favourites’ fun and spirited live shows, and I was also looking forward to seeing her support act, Sugar & The Hi-Lows (whom I reviewed earlier in the year), bring their brand of bluesy rock ‘n’ roll to a UK audience. The band took to the stage with a bang at 7:45pm, with Amy Stroup the driving force behind their energetic live persona as she danced, sang and hit her tambourine with purpose and effervescence. Trent Dabbs, the other member of the duo, also pulled his weight, bringing a cool 50s swagger to proceedings as he grooved to the beat. While mostly upbeat, they did bring it down for a couple of tracks including the lovely ‘Right Time To Tell You’, winning over much of the enthusiastic crowd (most of whom were already seated by the time the support act came on, a fairly rare occurrence).
