The 2nd Annual FTCR Awards… Nominations – Vote for your favorite!

Logo500x500-awards

Hey guys! It’s that time of year again, and it’s time for the second annual For The Country Record Awards! It was a huge success last year, so I thought we’d do it again this year with the addition of a third category – such excitement! As with last year, I rounded up some of the FTCR writers and a couple of industry friends to create a panel of voters – each person gave me their top 10 for Album, Song and Artist of the Year, running from November 1st, 2013 until October 31st, 2014 (seeing as we vote in November each year). I then cross-referenced their picks and we came up with a shortlist of the most voted. Now it’s your turn! You have two weeks (deadline December 19) to vote in the polls below for who you think should win. This is incredibly prestigious as the winners get a cyber high five of awesomeness (who wouldn’t want that?!) and make a cyber cake (yum).

Kira Isabella’s New Single ‘Quarterback’ Is A Harrowing Tale Of Date Rape

Kira Isabella - Quarterback Single Cover Art

With the way country music is these days, very few artists have the guts to tell real (sometimes haunting) stories. Radio has stripped its listeners of that experience, and subsequently left its artists stranded in the wasteland of overused cliches, tired hip-hop beats and regurgitated drum loops. Only the females (mostly) dare to dig their perfectly manicured nails into the dirt, offering up truly incredible work.

Carrie Underwood, for example, has explored such issues as domestic abuse and alcoholism (“Blown Away,” “Wasted”), homelessness (“Temporary Home”) and even wartime (“Just A Dream”). You can add Miranda Lambert (“Gunpowder & Lead,” “All Kinds Of Kinds”), Brandy Clark (“Get High,” “Take A Pill”) and Kacey Musgraves (“Merry Go Round,” “It Is What It Is”) to the long list of bold females, unafraid of pissing people off to tell thought-provoking stories.

Well, now you can add Canadian Country Music Association’s reigning female vocalist of the year Kira Isabella to that prestigious list. Her new single “Quarterback,” originally meant for Underwood awhile back, is a dark, honest narrative of date rape, by (you guessed) a quarterback.
