Striking Matches can count all of their songs that have appeared on the television show Nashville. There’s already been eight and one more is coming soon.

“I’m recording another one,” executive music producer Buddy Miller revealed on a recent Buddy & Jim Show taped in front of a live audience at the City Winery in Nashville.

“I don’t know if you spoiled it,” guitarist Justin Davis shot back. It was the first Buddy & Jim Show which will be taped monthly in front of a live audience at City Winery. The show featured musical guests Parker Millsap, Lee Ann Womack and Striking Matches. Miller remembered how the television show’s music supervisor Frankie Pine had gone out one day a few years ago and came back talking incessantly about the duo.

Lee Ann Womack ‘Chances Are’ – Single Review

Lee-Ann-Womack1

Lee Ann Womack has a total of 7 studio albums and two compilations, 5 Academy of Country Music awards, 5 CMA awards, and a Grammy award under her belt. Those are obviously huge accomplishments, but I have to say, it was surprisingly lacking considering the talent Lee Ann possesses. Why is Lee Ann not recognized more? She has an absolutely stunningly angelic voice, and produces solid, pure country material. I fell in love with her voice the first time I heard “Mendocino County Line”, her collaboration with Willie Nelson, years ago. If someone wants to know what true, pure country sounds like, I immediately direct them to Lee Ann’s catalogue.

Hall Of Fangirl – October 2015

leeann

Hall Of Fangirl: I would be lying if I said I didn’t belong here, because everyone who follows me on twitter, or knows me personally can attest to, I can fangirl with the best of them. Anyone who does follow me on twitter may recognise the hashtags ‘#loyaltoLeeAnn’, ‘#WomackWednesday’, ‘#LeeAnnonme’ or ‘#legendaryLeeAnn’, but you will also know that there doesn’t have to be a rhyme or reason for me to adore Lee Ann Womack, and hence, tweets pouring out my love can come thick and fast without any warning. Having laid this background out, when Vickye asked for inspiration for this month’s ‘Hall Of Fangirl’, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to publicly gush about Lee Ann Womack for 500 words!

Lee Ann Womack/Amanda Shires @ City Winery, New York City | April 20, 2015 – Review

<> at City Winery on April 20, 2015 in New York City.

Standing quietly on stage in a simple black dress, Amanda Shires casually opened her mouth and softly began one of the most beautiful sets I’ve ever experienced. As the first tones of her opening song, “Kudzu,” fell from her lips, the sold-out City Winery crowd clung silently to every acoustic sentence Shires formed. With this one gentle gesture, she has silenced the city that never sleeps.

Lee Ann Womack At The UK’s C2C Festival – Interview

C2C aka Country To Country 2015 - Day 1

Lee Ann Womack arrived on British shores for the 3rd annual C2C Festival on March 7th, filling the second slot on the bill behind Florida Georgia Line. Prior to her performance she took part in a press conference, and below is the full transcript of what went down, hosted by Richard Wooten.

Richard: Brandy Clark was just here, and she said that her favorite singer of the last twenty years was Lee Ann Womack. (cheers and applause)

Lee Ann: Awww!

Country to Country (C2C) Festival Day 1 | March 7th, 2015 – Review

C2C_500x500_UK

With a controversial line-up made up of Brandy Clark, Lee Ann Womack, Florida Georgia Line and Luke Bryan, ticket sales seemed to suffer at this year’s C2C music festival, with empty seats being prevalent throughout the two days. What I thought was worse, however, was the embarrassingly empty stands for the amazing openers on both days. In fact, on the Saturday, the stands only seemed remotely full when Florida Georgia line and Luke Bryan came on stage. If the UK wants to be taken seriously by the CMA and by artists, then deliberately missing two of country music’s greatest voices and songstresses is not the way to go about it.

Hall of Fangirl – March 2015 (C2C Edition)

c2c 2015

Every year we use our monthly Hall of Fangirl feature to take a look at the acts playing C2C Festival in London (+ Dublin, Oslo and Stockholm), since it’s become the UK and Europe’s premier country music festival, despite only coming up on its third year. Let’s dig in and take a look at some of the acts on the bill.

Brandy Clark

Currently traditional country’s torchbearer within the mainstream field, Brandy Clark is coming off the back of two Grammy nominations (Best New Artist and Best Country Album for ’12 Stories’) and a Grammy performance with Dwight Yoakam (‘Hold My Hand’) that resulted in the highest percentage sales gain for any performing artist on the night. As well as playing the CMA Songwriters Series the previous night, she will be opening day one of the festival, no doubt bringing in a whole new wave of fans. Check out her Grammy performance below.

Lee Ann Womack ‘Send It On Down’ – Single Review

download

Since 2008, the year of Lee Ann Womack’s last album release, female representation on country radio has all but dried up. However, beacons of hope have recently appeared with the likes of Kacey Musgraves, Brandy Clark, Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood taking the fight back to the ‘bro’s’, and while they haven’t received the airplay they deserve, they have made their sales talk.
