Country to Country (C2C) Festival 2016 | Day Two, London – Review

carrie underwood c2c

After the buzz of seeing Miranda Lambert for the first time on Friday, Saturday offered a country pop explosion in the form of Maddie & Tae, Sam Hunt, Little Big Town and Carrie Underwood, with High Valley and Maren Morris on the Yamaha Music Stage in between. Maddie & Tae kicked things off with a spirited rendition of ‘Right Here, Right Now’, which was later joined by their three singles to date, plus a couple of other album tracks and a cover of Loretta Lynn’s ‘You Ain’t Woman Enough (To Take My Man)’. I was truly impressed by that cover and by their performing skills in general – they have learned a lot in a short space of time and were incredibly polished, engaging, enthusiastic and crowd-pleasing. I’m really looking forward to seeing them again.

Maddie & Tae ‘Shut Up and Fish’ – Single Review

maddie tae suaf

Maddie Marlow and Taylor Dye, aka Maddie & Tae, stormed onto the country scene in 2014 with their smash hit “Girl In A Country Song”. The single made fun of and brought attention to the Bro Country trend, which brought a plague of songs that objectify women to radio. “Girl In A Country Song”, which peaked at #3 on the charts, served as the anthem of a movement that calls for more recognition and respect for females in country music. The song is clever and catchy, all the while being a tongue-in-cheek criticism of a very serious issue.

The duo’s second single was the inspirational “Fly”. While “Girl in A Country Song” used satire and irony, “Fly” was sincere in its message about a girl persevering through rough times. “Fly” ended up peaking at #9 on the Country Aircheck chart, which is pretty good for a female duo, but in reality both singles had the potential to hit #1, especially “Girl in a Country Song”. Maddie & Tae recently released their third single, “Shut Up and Fish”.

Maddie & Tae @ Amos’ SouthEnd, Charlotte, NC | October 16, 2015 – Review

Written by Carrie Srebro

Having the chance to watch Maddie & Tae grow as performers this past year has been fun. I first had the opportunity to check them out at a local radio show roughly one year ago, where they sang three songs (Girl in a Country Song was still new at radio and finding its legs) and chatted a little bit with the radio station’s DJ. I saw that they seemed to have good stage presence, but as they were seated and it was mostly acoustic, it was hard to get a good read. Then, this past May (and July), I was able to see them open for Dierks Bentley on the Sounds of Summer Tour. This gave me a much better idea of what Maddie Marlow and Tae Dye were like as performers, and I was impressed by how well they worked the stage and how at ease they appeared in front of large crowds.
