Miranda Lambert @ Jiffy Lube Live, Bristow, VA | May 21, 2016 – Review

IMG_1154

There was this moment during “All Kinds of Kinds” when Miranda Lambert was recalling standing up in geometry class and you wondered if the thought crossed her mind: am I really here? Lambert was singing in front of over 15,000 people headlining the Keeper of the Flame tour, on a cold rainy night at the Jiffy Lube Live amphitheater in Bristow, Virginia outside of Washington, D.C.

Dave Cobb ‘Southern Family’– Album Review

southern fam

Probably the most anticipated, talked about record of 2016 is ACM producer of the year, Dave Cobb’s concept record, Southern Family. Featuring some of the biggest artists in Country AND Americana, including Miranda Lambert, Brandy Clark, Jason Isbell, Morgane Stapleton (with Chris Stapleton), and Holly Williams, the record was expected to be a heavy hitter. I admit, that it was on my personal list of most anticipated records for this year and one that I thought for sure would top my Best Albums of 2016 (even though it’s only March, I was THAT confident). Being able to listen to Miranda’s “Sweet By and By”, John Paul White’s “Simple Song”, Anderson East’s “Learning”, Morgane Stapleton’s “You Are My Sunshine”, and Zac Brown’s “Grandma’s Garden” ahead of the album’s release only heightened my anticipation. So when the record was finally released, I immediately delved into it.

Country to Country (C2C) Festival 2016 | Day One, London – Review

miranda lambert c2c

The Country to Country festival, otherwise known as C2C, started big and has been growing in scale year on year. Prior to its inauguration in 2013, there had long been demand for a country music festival of its type, and it’s clear from the 60,000+ patrons across the three-day weekend this year that the demand is only increasing. The US acts coming over were keen to point out on numerous occasions that no line-up like this had ever existed at an American festival, and from a personal standpoint I would certainly suggest that the fourth edition of this festival was the best yet.

Miranda Lambert ‘Sweet By and By’ – Song Review

southern fam

I’ve been a fan of Miranda Lambert since the first time I heard “Gunpowder and Lead”, when I was about 15/16 years old. I was immediately drawn to the Texas firebrand and her music. She was sassy, strong, and took crap from no one. Her music was empowering and incredibly relatable to girls and women everywhere. Through a little over a decade, we have watched Miranda come into her own and make a name for herself in country music. Now some may argue that Miranda is just some singer who sings songs about hating men and getting revenge, and they would be dead wrong. First of all, Miranda isn’t “just some singer”, and second, there is so much more to her music than just revenge songs. Miranda has proven herself to be a versatile artist, with songs ranging from the empowering, hell hath no fury “Gunpowder and Lead” and “Kerosene”, to the vulnerable “More Like Her” and “Bathroom Sink”, to the sweeter “Virginia Bluebell” and “Safe”, to the sad ballads “Over You” and “Dear Diamond”. Yes, Miranda is much more than just a “singer of revenge songs”, and she proves that yet again, with her newest song, “Sweet By and By”.

Miranda Lambert ‘Bathroom Sink’ – Single Review

miranda-lambert-bathroom-sink-brave-empowering-ftr

First off, I should say that I’m a huge Ran (Miranda) fan, and have been since “Gunpowder & Lead”. I own all of Lambert’s albums, including her latest, Platinum. Personally, I love Platinum and I think that it actually proves to be a better evolution/follow-up to Lambert’s 3rd record Revolution than her 4th record, Four The Record. Platinum as a whole is an excellent album, but sadly the singles haven’t been that great or successful.
