iTunes UK Country Chart Roundup – Week of 11th September, 2015

sam hunt montevallo

The Country Albums chart is part familiar, part different this week. Of course, Nashville still leads, placing ‘The Music of Nashville: Season 3, Volume 2’ at #1, ‘Season 3, Volume 1’ at #8, ‘Season 2, Volume 2’ at #10 and ‘Season 2, Volume 1’ at #18, but Sam Hunt leaps forward to #3 with ‘Montevallo’ in an intriguing move. Derek Ryan’s ‘One Good Night’ also sells well for a second week, notching #5, while Zac Brown Band’s ‘Jekyll + Hyde’ moves up to #6 and Johnny Cash holds a strong #4 with ‘The Legend of’ (as well as ‘The Man Comes Around’ at #16). Elsewhere The Shires are as usual a popular buy, stepping up to #2 with ‘Brave (Deluxe)’ and down at #19 with the standard edition, ahead of the likes of Shania Twain (#7, #20) and Kacey Musgraves (#11, her first album drops out of the top 25 altogether).

Sam Hunt ‘Break Up In A Small Town’ – Single Review

sam-hunt-2014-billboard-650

Well folks, Sam Hunt is back with another single. For those of us who were hoping that he’d disappear from the country music genre, this is a huge disappointment. “Break Up In A Small Town” is the 5th single from Hunt’s Montevallo album. The question most people have about this new single is: “Is this finally an actual country song?” The answer is a definite NO. It’s not even close to sounding country. You could start right at the border line of the country music genre, get on a plane and fly for days, get off and onto a train, ride for a few more days, and you’d still be closer to country music than this single is. Now this isn’t exactly surprising, considering who the single is coming from. Sam Hunt has never been close to sounding country, leaving the majority of real country fans wondering why he chose to be in the genre.

Billboard Chart Roundup – Week of August 22nd, 2015

SAM-HUNT_0

Well, if you thought Sam Hunt was already totally dominating the Billboard country charts, then you were wrong. Now his latest hit ‘House Party’ has taken the top spot on Hot Country Songs and Country Digital Songs, while ‘Take Your Time’ is #1 on Country Streaming Songs and is high up on the former two charts. ‘Montevallo’ is also #1 on Top Country Albums, making Country Airplay the only chart he’s not in charge of (with ‘House Party’ at #4 there, it might not be long before he has all the charts locked in). The leader on radio instead this week is Michael Ray’s ‘Kiss You In The Morning’, the same week of his debut album release. Meanwhile Tim McGraw’s ‘Top of The World’ has debuted and new tracks from Luke Bryan have charted due to instant grat tracks from the iTunes pre-order. Read on for the full list!

cma fest 2015

CMA Festival’s Country’s Night To Rock aired this week (Aug. 4th) on ABC… and it was pretty forgettable. Country super group Little Big Town hosted the event and did a good job at it, it’s just too bad the event wasn’t as good as they were.

Sam Hunt ‘House Party’ – Single Review

sam hunt house party

Three guesses for what this is song is about. Any takers? It’s a tough one I know, but it is actually an R&B driven, country-marketed song about partying, with extra points if you were specific enough to suggest it is actually about a house party.

It was a busy affair at the O2 Arena in London last weekend as many tens of acts took to the free pop-up stages around the venue, to play to the tens of thousands of waiting fans who were milling about. The Country to Country Festival (otherwise known as C2C) was in its third year and had burst into life with an extremely popular main stage line-up, and the increasing exposure both the event and country music had gained in the intervening twelve months. At 11:30am when we arrived there were a few eager fans wandering around, but it soon got crazy as by 1pm it became difficult to move in many parts of the large multi-venue arena, particularly around such acts as Sam Hunt, Sonia Leigh, David Bradley and Ward Thomas, who were commanding more than a thousand people at their respective stages. We were front and center at this year’s event, covering a multitude of acts in review and in pictures. You can check out our Instagram for impromptu phone shots and updates, or read on for our reviews (collaborative between Vickye, Andy and Nick) of the acts we saw and Amy’s fabulous photos.
