Stella Parton Honors Sister Dolly With ‘Mountain Songbird’ Covers Album

Stella Parton is honoring her iconic sister with Mountain Songbird: A Sister’s Tribute, an album of re-recorded songs previously made famous by Dolly, available through digital retailers here. Mountain Songbird: A Sister’s Tribute also includes a new duet Dolly and Stella co-wrote together, titled “More Power to Ya.” The new album project coincides with a 16-date UK tour February – March.

Stella Parton Unearths ‘Buried Treasures’ In New Compilation, But Doesn’t Bury Her Bitterness

 As a big fan of Dolly Parton, her younger sister Stella has always been of slightly elevated interest to me than perhaps she would be for the wider population. Her voice is similar to Dolly’s, particularly on certain songs (although admittedly not as good), and she seemed to retain the more traditional, throwback sound when her sister looked towards poppier pastures. In 2013, however, she unveiled the new record ‘Resurrection’, the latest in a long line of compilation albums, except this time there was something new to gawp over: an album of dance remixes. Unfortunately, they were really, really bad ones, and this was made considerably worse by the promotional video Stella filmed as part of the project. Check it out below to get a taste of why I was beginning to worry for her sanity.

Stella Parton (Dolly’s Sister) Is Having A Meltdown

A lot of you may not be familiar with Stella Parton, the younger sister of Dolly, but as a self-confessed Dollyite and with friends who have known her I have vaguely kept up with her career. She has long been a successful singer, songwriter and actress; 4 years Dolly’s junior, she has released an impressive 16 original studio albums and 6 compilations; she has appeared in Dukes of Hazzard as well as plenty of productions on Broadway, including a version of ‘The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas’, the film version of which starred her more famous sister in 1982. She has also charted many country singles, mostly throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
