Country to Country Festival 2014: Day Two (Sunday, March 16) – Review

The second full day of the 2014 Country to Country festival began in high spirits; having experienced the night before, when four huge acts graced the big stage and there was more than enough to entertain during the day, the prospect of another good 12 hours of country music was one everyone was looking forward to. Again the pop-up acts were brilliant with a special mention to Striking Matches, who like their appearance at the CMA Songwriter Series impressed everything who heard them, and they must have had several hundred people gathered round for most of their set. Sadly they’d been put halfway round the O2, so there was hardly any space for other fans to get past to other sections of the building, although it did generally mean they’d just stop to listen anyway. There were even people who were sat all the way up the Cineworld staircase watching, and it was by far the biggest pop-up audience of the weekend.

The Band Perry ‘Chainsaw’ – Single Review


The Band Perry do angry very well, particularly if it’s from the point of view of a scorned lover. While their first album was sweeter, with gentler arrangements, ‘Pioneer’ sees the production of a lot of Paramore-lite sounds and mixes, and a lot of pissed off characters. ‘Better Dig Two’, the lead single, warned of her own death if her man so much as cheated on her. ‘DONE.’ yelled at a lover she wanted to be rid of, and other album tracks such as ‘Forever Mine Nevermind’ muse bitterly on the end of relationships. ‘Chainsaw’ does one better, however, and is more aggressive than all of the others put together, because well, she has a freakin’ chainsaw. Steer clear.

The Band Perry Announce ‘We Are Pioneers World Tour’

Off their electric performance of “DONE.” on the live broadcast at the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) Awards, The Band Perry announce the WE ARE PIONEERS WORLD TOUR. This marks their first worldwide headline arena tour in support of their heralded album, PIONEER. The WE ARE PIONEERS WORLD TOUR will make its way to Canada for the month of January, starting in British Columbia and ending in Ontario. The tour will feature support from Calgary-native Lindsay Ell and Easton Corbin. Last night in Edmonton, The Band Perry received plaques for the Platinum certification of their self-titled debut album, which marks the first group from Big Machine Label Group Canada to earn this status for a full length release. In Canada, the trio has garnered two #1 hits from PIONEER, including the Platinum-selling “Better Dig Two” and Gold single “DONE.”

“We live to play. In our minds everything we do – writing, recording, interviews, appearances – is the means to the live end. To fully and totally understand our band, you have to see us live.
