It was a night of performances and music celebration that nearly reached the four hour mark just on the main telecast; the pre-telecast, or the “premiere ceremony” as it is now called – lasted for around three hours and the red carpet was active for about six. In all, the academy honoured artists of all shapes, sizes and genres; not least of all country, Americana and roots music, which was much the talk of social media. With early winners (and losers) announced during the premiere ceremony in Best Country Song, Best Country Solo Performance and Best Country Duo/Group Performance, as well as all of the other folk and roots categories, it was left to the anticipated Best Country Album award to light up the main stage. Still, country had plenty of influence during the show, as Miranda Lambert performed ‘Little Red Wagon’, Eric Church performed ‘Give Me Back My Hometown’, and Brandy Clark shone on the mid-audience stage with Dwight Yoakam on her beautiful ballad ‘Hold My Hand’. Showing up most of the other vocalists on the night, let’s hope that the exposure leads her to the fame and industry standing that she deserves. When it came to the mainstream awards, Sam Smith absolutely cleared up with many touting him as the male Adele (seriously, think about it, how similar?! It’s scary), picking up awards for Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and more. Below are all the country and roots winners. Enjoy!
