Whiskey Myers ‘Firewater’ [UK Special Edition] – Album Review

whiskey myers firewater

Hard-hitting southern rock band Whiskey Myers have been tearing up the highway with their killer riffs, swampy swagger and earth-shattering soul since 2008, spawning three albums: ‘Road of Life’ (2008), ‘Firewater’ (2011), ‘Early Morning Shakes’ (2014). More recently they have made inroads to the UK (releasing their records to the market), where the style they are known for has been rising in popularity, and they’ll take this one step further in early 2016 when they tour in Britain for the very first time. To give fans a taster of what to expect, their UK record label Spinefarm has released a very special edition of the band’s celebrated second album ‘Firewater’ – the first time the record will be officially available over here, but also boasting brand new artwork and three studio tracks hailing from ‘Road of Life’.

Whiskey Myers ‘Early Morning Shakes’ – Album Review

As Whiskey Myers’ wonderful third studio album ‘Early Morning Shakes’ gets a special UK release this week, I thought it was about time I reviewed it in full. It first hit stores in the US last February, marking new heights for the Texas rockers who have become a consistent mainstay in their home state as well as commanding loyal and enthusiastic audiences elsewhere in the south (see our review of their Nashville show last April here). It seems appropriate that they would be headed to promote their material in the UK; they share management with The Cadillac Three, who have made great success of playing a couple of shows this side of the Atlantic every few months (in fact, they’re playing London, Manchester, Birmingham et al next month). Whiskey Myers channel an equally southern rock sound and are similarly hairy, although they are in fact an earthier, grittier version of their Big Machine-signed musical brothers.

Whiskey Myers @ Exit/In, Nashville, TN | March 27, 2014 – Review

photo (21)

First of all, a quick aside to say hi! I’m finally back from Nashville and (somewhat) recovering from jet lag, so normal service on For The Country Record will now resume. Thanks for continuing to visit in the interim and for being awesome!

At the close of our first full day in Nashville, we were lucky enough to see Whiskey Myers grace the legendary Exit/In venue in Music City, adding themselves to a long list of names from all genres. The majority of these names have some relation to rock, which fit the relatively new band like a glove; built upon long hair and plenty of guitars, along with an entrance that really enthralled and excited the crowd, you’d be forgiven for assuming they are much like the endless nameless bands that pass through those (metaphorical) city walls. Yet, the dedication of the crowd and the intensity with which they supported every move Whiskey Myers made is a window into what they have established thus far, the art of building a brand and a fanbase the old-fashioned way.

Whiskey Myers ‘Home’ – Single Review

home-lyric-video-whiskey-myers-1024x1024

Whiskey Myers are well known for what they do, but I am new to their music, a breed of southern rock which you might think inspired The Cadillac Three. ‘Home’, their brand new single, rocks out in every sense of the word, twangy rocking that makes the sound so distinctive, yet underneath there is a prevailing soul influence that makes it more interesting than some of its counterparts.
