Zac Brown Band @ Wembley SSE Arena, London, UK | September 25, 2015 – Review

Zac Brown Band are one of the hottest acts of any genre at the moment, particularly in the US where they regularly sell out multiple dates at some of the biggest stadiums such as Fenway Park, sometimes even without any support. A band like Zac Brown Band are so ambitious that dominating the country market is no longer enough, and their latest release ‘Jekyll + Hyde’ demonstrated this by exploring a plethora of genres, from EDM to hard rock and swing. A band looking for dominance across genres aren’t going to stop until they can dominate the overseas markets as well, and so Friday night saw them playing a huge gig at one of the bigger arenas in the UK. There was a definite feeling that if they could sell out this arena and do some more press over here, then an arena tour is on the cards in the near future. I am pleased to announce that the gig was a massive success, and that even after a 150 minute set, the crowd was still begging for more!

Taking a step away from our usual habit of spotlighting songwriters in this monthly feature, I thought I would showcase some recent badass covers for September’s edition. Largely focusing on country and Americana artists covering some classic songs, I hope this provides a great soundtrack to your Monday and beyond! Thanks to a number of friends and Twitter followers for some of these selections.

Well, if Zac Brown Band were looking for controversy, they found it.

The decision to release ‘Beautiful Drug’ to country radio was likely a label one, knowing the polarization it would cause, but regardless the group have come under much fire for recording a song described as ‘pop-EDM’, when they are known for their repertoire of roots, country and rock. I personally am generally against the use of electronic elements in country and the ever-popification of the format (with a few notable exceptions that include the adorable Kelsea Ballerini – don’t judge me), but I think I have had a less aggressive reaction to the existence and release of this song than many others.

CMA Festival Country’s Night To Rock: Recap + Loads of Opinion

cma fest 2015

CMA Festival’s Country’s Night To Rock aired this week (Aug. 4th) on ABC… and it was pretty forgettable. Country super group Little Big Town hosted the event and did a good job at it, it’s just too bad the event wasn’t as good as they were.

Zac Brown Band ‘Loving You Easy’ – Single Review

Loving-You-Easy

It’s safe to say that Zac Brown Band could well be on the brink of something huge. After taking three years to come back with a new album, in between which they collaborated with Dave Grohl and expanded their horizons, lead single ‘Homegrown’ managed to hit #1 on country radio after just eleven weeks of being on the chart. Even for them, that’s a fast rise. What’s more, it stayed there for three weeks, at a time when many were clamoring for that top spot, and the subsequent album ‘Jekyll + Hyde’ received a glowing review from our very own Nick as well as plenty more that were completely enamored with it. Of course, so far not everyone has “got” it, with others giving rather negative reviews, but with the amount of musical styles covered and the majority of reviews coming through very positive, it looks like the group are onto a winner. ‘Heavy Is The Head’, a collaboration with Soundgarden and Audioslave member Chris Cornell, recently went to #1 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart after only around six weeks of release, and new single ‘Loving You Easy’ is, by the numbers alone, bound to be another big hit.

Zac Candid

Fresh off the release of Zac Brown Band’s fourth studio album ‘Jekyll + Hyde’ on April 28th and its impressive 228,000 first week sales, lead singer Zac has announced a partnership with luxury men’s accessories brand William Henry. Founded in 1997 by Matt Conable, William Henry is an “American luxury brand devoted to the vision of designing and creating superlative jewelry and luxury accessories for men, crafting collections that integrate form and function into exquisite and unique pieces that belong to a category of all their own”. Zac Brown and Matt Conable are good friends and have previously collaborated on a collection of guitar-inspired pocket knives, so coming together again for the release of this new album seemed like a no-brainer.

Billboard Chart Roundup – Week of May 16th, 2015

Social-Profile-Icon-ndash-576-X-576-_zpslo9jbbov

Once again of course this week, Dierks Bentley’s ‘Say You Do’ holds onto #1 on Country Airplay, Little Big Town’s ‘Girl Crush’ dominates Hot Country Songs and Country Digital Songs, and Sam Hunt’s ‘Take Your Time’ is King at Country Streaming Songs. Where this week differs from previous ones, however, is with the arrival of Zac Brown Band’s first album since 2012, ‘Jekyll + Hyde’, which debuts at #1 with 228,000 copies sold. The arrival also aids the chart positioning of prior album ‘Greatest Hits So Far…’ and brand new single ‘Loving You Easy’, alongside prior release ‘Homegrown’. Too, Tyler Farr’s ‘Suffer In Peace’ debuts this week at #2 with 42,000 copies sold, boosting the progress of single ‘A Guy Walks Into A Bar’ and launching his duet with Jason Aldean ‘Damn Good Friends’ onto the chart. Read on for the full story!
